Dr. Tonya D. Armstrong

Leveraging Hope to Launch Resilient Leaders

Dr. T has been singing since her days in the Tots Choir at Union Baptist Church in Durham, NC.  Her many years of piano study laid a strong musical foundation and led to a piano concentration in her Music/Psychology double major at Yale University.  However, she was smitten by the singing bug at Yale, finding herself immersed in Yale Freshman Chorus and Yale Gospel Choir during her first year of studies.  Additionally, with some newly-made friends, she helped found Shades of Grey (now known as Shades-www.shadesofyale.org), Yale’s first a capella group for persons of color.  She was co-director of Yale Gospel Choir for three years and co-pitch and co-arranger for Shades for four years.  Dr. T continued her musical legacy with Anointed Harmony Youth Choir and Voices in Union Choir at Union Baptist.  In 2009, she released her debut album, “Choose Hope” (http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/tonyaarmstrong).  Wherever and for whomever she sings, Dr. T brings about a soulful and moving rendition to the music she shares.
